Morning Routine
Recently, Ashton Hall's morning routine went viral across social media. I haven't watched it, but from the various derivatives I understand he dunks his head in Saratoga water and rubs banana peels on his face. If you're looking for an in-depth review, unfortunately I can't help you.
However, I will take the opportunity to post my morning routine. It's pretty straightforward. I am most productive in the mornings but with two kids I've had to really focus on the things that are important.
So without further ado, here is my morning routine:
- 05:30am - wake up. The best ways to wake up early are:
- Go to bed early (I'm typically in bed by 9:15pm)
- Get out of bed in the morning. To do this, I set an alarm in the living room to go off two minutes after my apple watch alarm. I have to get up and turn it off or face the wrath of waking up my family.
- 05:30 - 05:40 - make some coffee and drink some electrolytes. I've started getting restless legs when I go to bed and am wondering if it could be an electrolyte thing, so I have a glass in the morning.
- 05:40 - 06:20 - I try and spend 25-40 minutes on whatever passion project I am working on. Currently I want to learn more about implementing a machine learning model, so I am working on how accurate horse race predictions can be.
- 06:20 - 06:40 - For 20 minutes I do three things every day:
- Duolingo for French (890 day streak as of this writing)
- Anki for French, Reading, etc
- Impulse App which are brain teasers that are supposed to keep your brain sharp.
- 06:40 - 07:00 - take a shower and get ready
At 7am my daughter wakes up, so my morning routine is over and I focus on her routine to get her up, fed, dressed, and ready for school.
I'd love to add to my morning routine, like exercisinig or stretching or something, but realistically I can't wake up earlier or squeeze anything in. I'll take consistency and work on the other priorities in order of their priority.
